Our breeds > Cardigan

Cardis probably come from an early Cardiganshire dog mix, and the Kennel Club distinguished them from Pembrokes in 1934. A bit taller and bigger than the Pems, Cardis are 11 inches at the withers, with weight in proportion to size. Their front legs are slightly opened out from the wrist, making the elbows closer to the body than their feet, if you look at them from the front. Their tails are never docked and the breed comes in more colors than the Pembrokes: red, tricolor, brindle, blue-merle. The coat is a little harsher than that of the Pems’, with a thick undercoat.

Rustic and courageous little dogs, Cardis are also real clowns but posses an easy temperament, only willing to please their people.
